EDI Vision

SOSCIP is a leader in harnessing advanced computing to drive innovation and is a highly successful model for academic-industry partnerships that focus on commercialization.

Our mission is founded on the belief that data science education, training, and research can improve the way Canadians live and work.

Recognizing that these activities take place in the context of a highly diverse society, we believe that diversity is a resource for excellence, that excellence and innovation occur when everyone is welcome in the research community, and that a commitment to diversity and inclusion helps attract the largest pool of excellent researchers and innovators.

It is, we believe, this excellence from diversity that will be crucial to delivering the outcomes and expertise that will build a strong economy and a better society for all Canadians.

EDI Pledge

As reflected in our core values — respect, excellence, diversity, integrity, social responsibility, and collaboration — SOSCIP will work to create an inclusive collaborative environment where everyone is treated with respect. More specifically, this means that we are committed to:

1. Creating and maintaining an equitable, diverse, and inclusive innovation environment through our policies, programs, practices, partnerships, and platforms. We welcome applications from all qualified persons, and we encourage individuals from underrepresented groups—including women, Indigenous Peoples (First Nations, Métis and Inuit), members of visible minority/racialized groups, persons with disabilities, members of LGBTQ2+ communities, and all those who may contribute to the further diversification of ideas—to join our collaborative community;

2. Recognizing that all individuals have multiple identities and the intersection of those identities should be considered wherever possible, SOSCIP will adopt a multi-faceted and intersectional understanding of inequity, discrimination, and exclusion, and will use this understanding to drive cultural change;

3. Creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome, can access opportunities, and can reach their full potential;

4. Ensuring that our treatment of differences do not produce direct or indirect forms of discrimination;

5. Taking action to reduce/eliminate physical and social barriers to participation in our research and innovation community;

6. Attracting, welcoming, and retaining researchers, trainees, staff, and leaders of diverse backgrounds, viewpoints, and experiences;

7. Being active champions of equity, diversity and inclusion on our campuses, in our partnerships, in our communities, and across Ontario.

We, the undersigned, commit the seven elements of SOSCIP’s EDI Vision and Pledge established above.

SOSCIP’s commitment to EDI also includes the endorsement of the Government of Canada’s Dimensions Charter, Best Practices in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in Research and the 50-30 Challenge.
