T-Mobile customers awaiting compensation from the company’s massive 2021 data breach settlement will need to wait just a little longer. Originally scheduled for distribution in April 2025, the payments have now been postponed to May.
“All court proceedings are now complete,” according to the settlement administrator. “The distribution of settlement payments is currently being finalized. Due to unexpected delays, we now expect the distribution of settlement payments to begin in May 2025.”

Background: A Breach That Affected 76 Million People
In 2021, T-Mobile experienced a major cyberattack that compromised the personal data of roughly 76 million current and former customers. Breached data included full names, home addresses, dates of birth, and Social Security numbers.
Though T-Mobile admitted no wrongdoing, the company agreed to a $350 million settlement to resolve legal claims arising from the incident.
Who Qualifies for a Settlement Payment?
All Impacted Customers Had to File a Claim
Every individual whose information was exposed in the breach qualified to receive a portion of the settlement. However, a claim had to be submitted in order to receive a payment. Notifications were sent in 2022, but many eligible customers may have forgotten to follow through or lost track of the process.
Two Types of Compensation Available
1. Reimbursement for Documented Losses (Up to $25,000):
Customers who experienced identity theft or spent money responding to fraud could qualify for up to $25,000. To be eligible for this higher amount, claimants had to submit detailed documentation showing:
- Time spent freezing credit or restoring identity
- Costs for credit monitoring services
- Losses resulting from fraud
2. Flat Rate Payments for All Other Claimants:
Even customers who didn’t submit documentation for financial losses were still eligible for a smaller payout:
- Up to $25 for general claimants
- Up to $100 for California residents impacted in August 2021
