At Home Shutting Down 30 Stores After Bankruptcy Full List of Closures and Why It's Happening

At Home, the popular home goods and furniture retailer based in Coppell, Texas, is shutting down even more stores as part of its ongoing Chapter 11 bankruptcy process. After initially announcing 26 closures in June, the company has now expanded that list to a total of 30 locations, affecting thousands of workers and communities across the United States.

The closures are a direct result of mounting financial pressure, slowing sales, and rising operating costs — challenges that have forced other major retailers like Big Lots, Joann Fabrics, Kohl’s, and Party City to scale back physical locations this year.

Why Is At Home Closing Stores?

On June 16, 2025, At Home filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, citing high debt levels, increased interest rates, and inflationary pressures. Tariffs and rising customs fees were also noted in court documents as key contributors to the company’s declining profitability.

At the time of the filing, the company employed about 7,170 people, many of whom are now affected by the wave of closures and liquidation sales.

The retailer explained that many of its remaining locations were operating at “sub-optimal performance levels” due to the cost burden of maintaining large brick-and-mortar spaces in a challenging economic environment.

What’s Next for At Home?

The bankruptcy filing outlines a restructuring plan where At Home will transfer ownership to a group of hedge funds and investment firms based in New York City and San Francisco. While store closures are a key part of the restructuring, the brand may continue to operate online and at select remaining locations.

Liquidation sales are currently underway at the closing stores, with discounts expected to increase as the final closing dates approach. Shoppers should act quickly to take advantage of clearance deals while inventory lasts.
